Day 44 Tanzania

Day 44   Tanzania
Well it is day 6 here in Tanzania and day 44 of my adventure.  Time is going so quickly, I am already half way through my time here in Africa.
I am staying in the Mission House which is rented by the church.  Its a big place, sleeps about 20, but I am the sole occupant at the moment.  For my $30USD per day I get accommodation (big room, ceiling fan, ensuite bathroom), three cooked meals per day, my room cleaned and my washing done.  A pretty good deal really.

The food here is good, lots of fresh vegetables and fruit.  The mangoes here are amazing, so tasty.  And the little mini bananas are really sweet.   I have my own Coke fridge with a full variety of soft drinks, and fresh fruit juice whenever I want it.  The strangest food so far was this morning’s breakfast, which consisted of pancakes with carrot pieces in them.  Quite odd but didn’t taste too bad.  Breakfast is a cup of tea and something hot, which has varied between pancakes, toast, omelettes and bread.  The last was the day the power went out which meant cold shower, cold breakfast, and no hair straighteners.

Overall Tanzania is hotter than either Uganda or Kenya, at least 28 degrees each day and very humid.  There seem to be more mosquitoes too, but that may just be the fact that the doors and windows don’t seal that well.  People seem to speak less English here than they did in Kenya, and because I am 15mins drive from town, and without transport, I’m feeling a bit more isolated.

Everyone has been really helpful and lovely so far, and I’m looking forward to getting on with teaching the kids, which starts tomorrow.  I have 38 children and 10 computers which will be interesting!

Reverend Glorious and his wife Josephine (who run the schools and church) have just come back from being away so it was good to meet them for church yesterday and dinner last night.

Today is the general election (hence church moved to Sat) so I’ve just been at home on my own, which has been a good chance to sort out my gear and do some mending, as well as skyping those at home and catching up on all the news via facebook.

Well, that's all the news really.  I will try and post more regularly now I've remembered my password.

Hi it's me, Anita. Blogging!

It's the night before my flight out.  And I feel: tired, excited and a little apprehensive.  My to-do list is almost done - including starting this blog!

I look forward to keeping you up to date with my travels and adventures...

Til the next post
